Man, 68, Murdered in Colón; Province Reaches 50 Homicides This Year

A violent incident in Colón, Panama, resulted in the death of a 68-year-old man on Thursday afternoon. The victim was shot multiple times inside the L-111 multifamiliar building located in Altos de los Lagos.

According to preliminary reports, the victim was present in the building when an assailant arrived and, without any apparent provocation, opened fire. The gunshots inflicted fatal injuries, causing the man's immediate death. The perpetrator fled the scene before authorities arrived.

National Police units secured the crime scene to preserve evidence. Personnel from the Directorate of Judicial Investigation (DIJ) and the Public Ministry have launched an investigation into the shooting to clarify the circumstances of the crime and identify those responsible.

This latest homicide adds to a disturbing trend of violence in the province. With this case, Colón has now recorded 50 homicides in the year 2026, according to preliminary figures provided by officials. The Public Ministry continues its investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and to apprehend the attacker.
