Man arrested a year after Okanagan Granfondo crash that killed cyclist

A year after a tragic collision at the Okanagan Granfondo cycling race, Penticton RCMP has announced an arrest. The crash, which occurred on July 13, 2025, resulted in the death of one cyclist and serious injuries to two others after they were struck by a vehicle.

Jonathan Crant was arrested on Monday and faces charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. Staff Sgt. Scott Hanry described the investigation as complex, requiring significant effort to collect and analyze evidence. He extended thoughts to the families and individuals affected by the incident, acknowledging the profound impact on the community.

In the wake of the tragedy, organizers announced last fall that the Okanagan Granfondo would cease operations. OG Events Ltd., which had organized the event since 2011, stated the cancellation marks a pivotal moment as they shift focus to new opportunities within the Okanagan cycling community. The race had become an iconic event, attracting over 25,000 cyclists throughout its history and contributing economic benefits while raising awareness and funds for initiatives like youth cycling development and desmoid tumour research.
