Man Arrested for 90km Drunk Drive After Funeral Home Visit, Evades Police in Chase

A man in his 60s has been handed over to prosecutors for driving under the influence for approximately 90 kilometers, from a funeral home in Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province, to Daejeon's Seo-gu district. The incident, which occurred on February 6th, began after the man consumed alcohol at a funeral home before embarking on his dangerous journey.

Police received a report of a vehicle swerving and braking erratically, raising suspicions of drunk driving. Upon locating the suspect's vehicle, officers attempted to signal for him to stop using high beams and a microphone. Although the driver briefly stopped, he refused to exit the vehicle and instead fled from the police.

Adding to the drama, a civilian driver in the vicinity noticed the pursuit and joined in chasing the drunk driver, assisting the police in their efforts. The chase continued for about 3 kilometers before the suspect's escape route was blocked by the combined efforts of the civilian and police vehicles, forcing him to stop.

Upon apprehension, the man's blood alcohol content was measured at 0.158%, a level significantly above the 0.08% threshold that warrants license revocation. This incident highlights a disturbing trend of reckless behavior on our roads, with individuals prioritizing their own actions over the safety of others. The swift response from both the police and a vigilant citizen underscores the importance of community involvement in combating such dangerous activities.
