Man Arrested for Allegedly Threatening Mother in Viral Video

Police in Sungai Petani have arrested a man believed to have threatened his mother in a video that went viral online. The incident took place in front of the Kuala Muda District Zakat Office.

The short video clip shows the suspect, in his 30s, holding an object and verbally confronting the woman, identified as his mother, who is in her 50s and has a mental disability. They were reportedly at the office to submit a quotation for home repairs.

Kuala Muda District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect, a security guard, was detained after a report was filed. The suspect has been brought to court for a remand application to aid the investigation into whether threats or violence were used against the woman.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. Police are also seeking witnesses and additional video footage to clarify the events. The suspect has no prior criminal record, and no weapon has been recovered.
