Man arrested for attempted murder after chip shop stabbing in Blankenberge

Authorities in Blankenberge, Belgium, have arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after a violent stabbing occurred at a local chip shop. The incident has led to a judicial review of the suspect's detention.

The altercation reportedly began after closing hours on Monday. According to initial reports, the suspect, who works at the chip shop, refused a customer's request to use the restroom. This refusal allegedly led to the customer striking the employee. Following this physical confrontation, the employee reportedly grabbed a knife and pursued the customer outside the establishment.

The victim was attacked near the Zeedijk, sustaining serious injuries. He managed to stumble into a nearby café, where patrons alerted emergency services. The injured man was then rushed to the hospital for urgent surgery. His current condition remains unknown.

The suspect was apprehended by police shortly after the incident, having returned to the chip shop. The court is scheduled to determine next Friday whether the man will remain in custody pending further investigation.
