Man arrested for using stolen scooter in ride-sharing service

Kathmandu traffic police have arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly operating a ride-sharing service using a stolen scooter. The suspect, Saroj Khanal, a resident of Damak Municipality in Jhapa, was living in the New Bus Park area of Kathmandu.

The investigation began after a passenger reported losing a laptop bag while traveling from Naxal to Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The passenger alerted traffic police, who initiated a search for the missing item. Khanal was apprehended at a hotel in New Bus Park.

During questioning, police discovered that Khanal was not only using a stolen scooter but also operating the ride-sharing service under someone else's account. The scooter, bearing registration number Ba Pra 00-00 Pa 00, was reportedly stolen from Gongabu some time ago.

Further suspicion arose when Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police found Khanal's citizenship certificate in the storage compartment of another recovered motorcycle during a separate operation to return stolen vehicles to their owners. This discovery has led authorities to believe Khanal may have been involved in motorcycle theft for an extended period. The recovered laptop has since been returned to its owner, and the investigation is ongoing.
