Man Arrested in Calabar for N500,000 Job Scam Posing as Doctor

Police in Calabar, Nigeria, have arrested a 39-year-old man accused of impersonating a medical doctor to defraud a woman. Udeme Emmanuel Ekpeme allegedly took 500,000 Nigerian Naira from Mrs. Edemawan Samuel with the promise of securing employment for her children at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

The Commissioner of Police has directed that this case be thoroughly investigated to establish the true circumstances surrounding it and to determine whether there are other victims.

The Cross River State Police Command apprehended Ekpeme after receiving a petition from the 45-year-old victim. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect exploited his false identity to gain the complainant's trust before committing the fraud. Authorities have recovered exhibits related to the case.

The suspect will be charged to court as soon as sufficient evidence is established.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the arrest and stated that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive investigation. The probe aims to establish the exact circumstances of the case, identify any other victims, and determine the full scope of the suspect's activities. Eitokpah assured the public that the command would provide updates as the investigation progresses and that the suspect would face charges once sufficient evidence is gathered.
