Man arrested in connection with shooting in Netivot that killed one, wounded another

Israeli police arrested a Netivot resident in his 40s overnight on suspicion of involvement in a shooting that killed one man and wounded another on Saturday night. The incident occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. in a parking area. Security camera footage reportedly shows a gunman approaching two men, speaking briefly with them, and then opening fire at close range.

One of the victims was critically injured and pronounced dead at the scene after resuscitation efforts failed. The second victim, a 29-year-old man, sustained a leg wound and managed to flee into a nearby building. He was later taken to the hospital in light condition.

An investigation has been launched, with officers collecting evidence at the scene and searching for those involved. Following a situational assessment by Southern District Police Commander Haim Bublil, the case was assigned to the Negev Central Unit. The suspect was apprehended during the night by officers from the Netivot police station and the Negev Central Unit and is currently undergoing questioning. Police plan to seek an extension of his detention when he appears before a judge at the Beersheba Magistrate’s Court on Sunday.
