Man arrested in Zagreb after high-speed chase, drunk driving

A dramatic police chase concluded with the arrest of a 46-year-old man in Zagreb after he led officers on a pursuit from Zaprešić. The man, driving a BMW with Bjelovar license plates, ignored police lights and sirens, continuing towards Zagreb. Police maintained a controlled pursuit to ensure public safety.

The chase intensified after entering Zagreb, with the driver disregarding signals at multiple intersections and continuing on major avenues. The pursuit ended near the Zagreb-West junction when the BMW collided with temporary traffic signals and a guardrail. Authorities later determined the driver had a blood alcohol content of 1.81 g/kg and had committed numerous traffic violations.

The incident began when a 35-year-old woman reported the man for making threats, an act she had also reported to police two days prior. Following his arrest, the man was brought before the Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Zagreb. Prosecutors requested a fine of €8730 and a 12-month ban on driving category B vehicles. The court found him guilty, ordered his detention for 15 days, and he was subsequently taken into custody in Zagreb.
