Man beaten to death by locals after alleged home break-in in Bangladesh

Residents in Narsingdi's Raipura upazila beat a man to death after catching him and an accomplice allegedly attempting to steal from a house early Tuesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Hridoy Mia, 30, while his alleged accomplice, Kamal Mia, 35, sustained injuries.

The incident occurred around 3:00 AM in the Sachiamara area. According to police and local accounts, four individuals, believed to be part of a gang, broke into the home of Abdul Salam, who had recently returned from Saudi Arabia. Hridoy Mia and Kamal Mia allegedly entered a room, while the other two remained outside. The household raised an alarm, prompting neighbors to rush to the scene and apprehend the two men.

Md Mujibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station, stated that the two men were beaten by the residents, and one died en route to the hospital. Doctors at the Raipura Upazila Health Complex declared Hridoy Mia dead upon arrival, noting he had already died before reaching the facility. Kamal Mia received treatment at the hospital.

Police confirmed that Hridoy Mia had a prior record, having been arrested last year in a theft case. He had reportedly escaped from police custody while being transferred to jail, remaining at large until this incident. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
