Man Burns Parents' House in Pati After Money Request Denied

Authorities in Pati, Central Java, have apprehended a 27-year-old man identified by the initials MI, who is suspected of setting his own parents' house ablaze. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, June 13, around 10:40 PM, resulted in significant material damage estimated at Rp100 million (approximately $6,200 USD).

According to the Head of the Sukolilo Police Sector, AKP Sahlan, the alleged motive stemmed from a dispute over money. MI reportedly asked his father, identified as M (61), for funds, but his request was denied, leading to an argument that escalated into the alleged arson.

Initial investigations suggest that MI used a lighter to ignite the fire near the gas stove in the kitchen of the house, located in Kedungwinong Village, Sukolilo District. The flames quickly spread to the surrounding bamboo walls, engulfing the structure.

Neighbors who witnessed the fire alerted the authorities and the fire department. Firefighters, along with police and local residents, worked to extinguish the blaze. Although no lives were lost, the kitchen and several household furnishings were destroyed. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
