Man Causes Home Damage, Threatens Wife Over Child Eating on Sofa in Volos

A domestic violence incident unfolded in Nea Ionia, Volos, Greece, when a 56-year-old man unleashed a destructive rage within his home, smashing furniture and threatening his wife. The outburst reportedly stemmed from anger over his youngest child eating on the sofa instead of at the table.

The man's actions included breaking the television, throwing pots, plates, and an ironing board, accompanied by vulgar insults and threats directed at his wife. He was subsequently found guilty of domestic threat by the Volos Court of Misdemeanors and received a seven-month suspended prison sentence, with a three-year suspension and the right to appeal. Additionally, a restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from approaching or contacting his 45-year-old wife for the same duration.

According to local media reports, the wife testified that she fears for the safety of herself and their six minor children, aged 5 to 18. She requested protective measures against her husband. She recounted that the incident occurred on Monday, July 20, when the accused lost his temper over a trivial matter and began destroying objects in front of their children. Following the episode, the man allegedly took his father-in-law's car and disappeared.

During the proceedings, the accused admitted to causing damage, claiming he intended to "set some boundaries" for his children regarding watching violent TV programs. He stated, "I didn't do it out of malice, but for compliance." He denied threatening his wife. The court, however, found him guilty, imposing the suspended sentence and the contact ban, while allowing him supervised visits with his children.
