Man charged in fatal shooting had no-contact order: court docs

Sharnjeet Singh, 37, faces charges of first-degree murder and failing to comply with an undertaking following the fatal shooting of Navneet Kaur. Kaur was killed on July 24 when a man approached her on Humberwood Boulevard near Rexdale Boulevard and fired a single shot before fleeing. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents suggest the incident is a case of alleged intimate partner violence. Singh had been under a court order, issued on July 18, 2025, to have no contact with Kaur. This order stemmed from previous charges of criminal harassment and assault related to Kaur. He had promised not to contact her directly or indirectly, nor go to any place she was known to be.

Singh's bail was revoked upon his arrest. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on July 31. This case marks the second deadly incident of alleged intimate partner violence in Toronto within six days, with the accused in both instances also charged with breaching a court order.

In a similar case on July 18, Thi Nguyen, 29, was found fatally wounded on Fairview Mall Drive. Her estranged husband, Martin Ly, 28, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and failing to comply with an undertaking. Court records show Ly had been arrested on July 14, 2026, for stealing a cellphone from Nguyen, assault, and destroying her cellphone. He was also released on an undertaking with a no-contact order concerning Nguyen.
