Man charged with femicide in Uruguay after killing partner in front of minors

A Uruguayan man faces femicide charges after allegedly murdering his partner in Durazno on Saturday. The Prosecutor's Office stated the crime was "especially aggravated by having been committed in the presence of minors and very especially aggravated by femicide." The victim was reportedly with four children, including her and the suspect's son, when the attack occurred.

The 41-year-old suspect, who used a bladed weapon, was apprehended hours later in a rural area about six kilometers from the crime scene. Authorities confirmed there were no previous domestic violence reports filed by the couple. The victim was 42 years old.

Following a psychiatric evaluation that did not establish the suspect's inability to stand trial, he was ordered to be held in a mental health facility for 120 days. This period will last until the results of a second psychiatric assessment, requested during a hearing and to be conducted by a medical board, are finalized.
