Man City reject £55m Barcelona offer for Rodri

Manchester City has turned down a second offer from Barcelona for midfielder Rodri, this time a £55 million bid. The Spanish club, which had an initial £40 million offer rejected, remains keen on signing the World Cup-winning player. However, City is reportedly holding out for more than £60 million for the 30-year-old.

Despite this latest setback, Barcelona is still interested in Rodri and is evaluating its options as negotiations continue. Rodri is in the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, but Manchester City is reluctant to let him go and hopes to extend his deal. Sources indicate that City would not prevent Rodri from leaving if he formally requests a transfer.

The primary obstacle in negotiations is the valuation of the player. Manchester City is demanding an initial guaranteed fee between €70 million and €80 million. Barcelona, constrained by La Liga's financial fair-play rules, can only offer a package capped at approximately €65 million, with much of it tied to variables and add-ons rather than an immediate guaranteed sum. Manchester City is also exploring potential replacements, including Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez and Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi, as they might lose two central midfielders this summer.
