Man Dead After Exchange of Gunfire With RCMP in New Brunswick

A man is dead in Maltempec, New Brunswick, following an exchange of gunfire with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The incident occurred on Wednesday after officers responded to a report of an armed individual experiencing mental distress at a residence in the town, located approximately 225 kilometers northeast of Fredericton.

According to a news release from the RCMP, the man fired at the responding officers. Police stated that the individual refused to drop his weapon or cooperate with their demands. Officers then discharged their firearms, striking the man.

Following the shooting, officers administered first aid to the man at the scene. However, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The release did not provide specific details regarding the nature of his injuries or the exact cause of death.
