Man dies in hospital after stabbing at Newcastle unit block

A man has died in hospital after being fatally stabbed at a unit block in Hamilton South, Newcastle. Police were called to the Hassall Street location on Sunday afternoon following reports of an assault. Paramedics treated the man, believed to be in his 40s, for stab wounds at the scene before transporting him to hospital in a critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries. Detectives and officers, including those from state riot and homicide squads, have since conducted an extensive forensic examination of the unit block and surrounding areas. Superintendent Kylie Endemi stated that investigators are committed to determining the circumstances of the man's death and are actively seeking potential witnesses. The area was reportedly busy at the time of the incident, and police are appealing for anyone with information, including dashcam footage, to come forward.
