Man dies while handcuffed during police arrest in Italy

A 43-year-old man has died in Bologna, Italy, while in police custody and handcuffed. The incident occurred in the Pilastro neighborhood after officers responded to calls from residents reporting the man, of Moroccan origin, was causing disturbances and appeared agitated.

According to local media reports, two officers immediately subdued and handcuffed the man, placing him face down on the ground. Videos circulating online show paramedics and another individual present, with the detained man heard shouting "help" in Italian. The officers maintained their restraint until the man stopped moving and speaking. One officer attempted resuscitation, but the man could not be revived.

Bologna's mayor, Matteo Lepore, and the regional president of Emilia-Romagna, Michele De Pascale, issued a joint statement calling for a full clarification of the events. They expressed confidence in the competent institutions to conduct a rapid, rigorous, and transparent investigation. The city's police headquarters confirmed that bodycam footage from the officers involved would be promptly made available to judicial authorities.
