Man fatally shot in Punta de Rieles; police seek suspects

Montevideo police are investigating the homicide of a man who died early Saturday morning after being shot in the intersection of Acuario and Pasaje B streets in Punta de Rieles. Officers from Operational Zone III responded to reports of a person injured by a firearm at the location.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found the man on the public street, bleeding heavily and surrounded by onlookers. He was transported to a medical facility, where medical personnel pronounced him dead at approximately 1:35 AM. The victim suffered "multiple gunshot wounds" and died from "hypovolemic shock with anemia."

According to police inquiries, a witness stated that the victim had gone to a local store. When the victim took too long, the witness went to look for him. The witness then saw the victim run from a nearby plaza towards Ovidio Fernández Ríos street, where he collapsed upon reaching the witness. Forensic teams, along with personnel from Investigations and the Homicide Department, are working the scene.

In a separate incident, Montevideo police are also investigating the discovery of a body floating in the Miguelete stream. Workers found the body on Friday while performing cleaning tasks in the area. Emergency services confirmed the death of the adult male. Firefighters and forensic personnel were present at that scene as well.
