Man gets 14 months for assaulting postal worker, attacking police

A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to 1 year and 2 months in prison for assaulting a postal worker and then fleeing from the police by ramming his car into an officer. The court cited the man's extensive record of similar offenses.

The incident took place on April 21st in Gangseo District, Seoul. The accused, identified as Hwang, allegedly dragged postal worker Mr. K (42) off his motorcycle and assaulted him after feeling cut off by the motorcycle. When police arrived at the scene, Hwang reportedly drove his car into one of the officers before fleeing the scene for approximately 2 kilometers.

Mr. K sustained injuries to his back and neck and received medical treatment. The police officer also suffered a wrist injury. Hwang was arrested at the scene and reportedly told investigators that Mr. K had cut him off.

Presiding Judge Go Cheol-man of the Southern Seoul District Court stated that Hwang showed hostility towards public servants and endangered them. The judge noted Hwang's significant history of similar offenses, including obstruction of public duty and violent crimes, as a key factor in the sentencing.
