Man gets 4 years for wife's death after pushing her, leaving her unattended

A South Korean court has sentenced a man to four years in prison for causing his wife's death by pushing her during a drunken argument and then neglecting her. The incident occurred in December when the man, in his 50s, pushed his wife during a dispute at their apartment in Gangneung. She fell and hit the back of her head on the floor.

The defendant had a significant responsibility as a spouse of about 23 years of marriage to protect the victim's life and safety and to actively rescue her in emergencies.

Instead of seeking medical help, the man, who had been drinking with his wife since the previous day, moved her to the bedroom. He reportedly believed she was merely drunk and did not check on her condition for over 24 hours. His wife was found dead the following afternoon, with the cause of death determined to be head trauma, including a subdural hemorrhage.

It highlighted his failure to monitor her condition or seek appropriate medical attention after she collapsed, deeming his actions beyond a simple, impulsive accident. The court pointed to his lack of accountability and the inexplicable nature of his response as factors in the sentencing.
