Man gets one year in prison for elevator assault on ex-girlfriend

A man in Gwangju, South Korea, has been sentenced to one year in prison for physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The incident took place in the elevator of his apartment building.

The 30-year-old defendant, identified as A, was found guilty of special injury and property damage. The court handed down the sentence on August 4th. The assault occurred on June 7th around 4 a.m. when the woman, identified as B, visited A's apartment.

B, who had dated A for about seven months, went to his residence to delete intimate videos of them stored on his phone. After A handed over the phone, B reportedly began checking his messages with other women. Enraged by this, A allegedly attacked her.

According to the charges, A grabbed B by the neck 11 times with his hands, a bag strap, and his jumper. He also threatened her with his phone, hit her head with his bag, grabbed her hair, and kicked her. The assault left B with injuries requiring approximately two weeks of medical treatment.
