South Korea blocks sale of Trader Joe's seasoning over drug components

South Korean police have taken action to prevent the sale of a popular Trader Joe's seasoning blend on online marketplaces after discovering it contains poppy seeds with traces of controlled substances. The seasoning, "Everything but The Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend," is now subject to transaction blocking on platforms like Karrot Market (Danggeun Market).

The National Forensic Service's analysis confirmed the presence of poppy seeds in the product, which tested positive for morphine and codeine. These substances are classified as narcotics under South Korean law, making the unauthorized import and sale of the seasoning illegal.

Authorities have warned that both sellers and buyers of the seasoning could face criminal charges. While some individuals were reportedly unaware of the product's illicit components, police investigations indicate that others attempted to trade it knowingly. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
