Man hospitalized under guard after fatal crash kills woman in Greece

A 53-year-old man remains hospitalized under police supervision at the University Hospital of Patras after sustaining serious injuries in a tragic traffic accident that claimed the life of 46-year-old Eleni. The collision occurred on the old Patras-Pyrgos National Road in Kato Achaia.

Initial findings suggest the 53-year-old driver may have veered into the oncoming lane while traveling towards the Ilia prefecture. This action reportedly led to a head-on collision with the vehicle driven by the 46-year-old woman. Her car subsequently went off the road and caught fire, trapping her inside, resulting in her death.

The accident took place shortly after 3:30 PM on Friday near the restaurant 'Pic Nic' in Kato Achaia. Eleni, who had just finished her work shift, was driving home at the time. Emergency services, including firefighters, police, and ambulance crews, responded swiftly to the scene.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, but the 46-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after being recovered from her vehicle. The operation involved 16 firefighters with four vehicles. Police managed traffic, rerouting vehicles to facilitate the rescue and recovery efforts. Eleni is survived by a 25-year-old daughter living abroad. Relatives were informed after the identification process was completed.
