Man injures another during Basketball match, Abu Dhabi court asks him to pay Dhs5,000 compensation

An Abu Dhabi court has mandated a man to pay Dhs5,000 in compensation to another individual following a physical altercation during a basketball match. The incident, which occurred while the two were playing, saw the defendant assault the plaintiff.

The victim had initiated a lawsuit seeking Dhs100,000 in damages. He claimed the defendant slapped him with a forceful punch to the left side of his face, causing a visible bruise and an abrasion on the inner lip. The lawsuit detailed the physical, psychological, and social distress incurred as a result of the assault.

Evidence presented included a medical report detailing the injuries. Furthermore, a prior criminal judgment had already found the defendant guilty of assault, imposing a Dhs10,000 fine for moral damages. The court referenced this previous conviction in its decision.

In its ruling, the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court acknowledged the established act of assault from the criminal proceedings. Consequently, it ordered the defendant to pay the plaintiff Dhs5,000 as compensation for all damages sustained.
