Man jumps on cars, breaks windshields at busy Zagreb intersection; hospitalized

A chaotic scene unfolded at a busy intersection in Novi Zagreb when a man began jumping on cars and damaging vehicles. The incident occurred at the intersection of Avenija Većeslava Holjevca and Ulica Damira Tomljanovića. Videos circulating online show the man walking and jumping on cars stopped at a traffic light, causing damage to several vehicles and breaking two windshields.

Shocked drivers immediately called the police. Some attempted to detain the man until emergency services arrived. Zagreb police confirmed their officers intervened, subdued the man using force, and he was then examined by emergency medical personnel before being transported to an appropriate health facility.

According to RTL Danas, the individual is a 27-year-old Romanian citizen. He was taken to the Sveti Ivan Psychiatry Clinic in Jankomir, accompanied by intervention police, in a highly confused state. Doctors have hospitalized him in a closed ward for patients with severe psychotic conditions, where further evaluation and treatment will take place. Communication with medical staff is reportedly challenging due to his limited English proficiency.

Traffic expert Krunoslav Ormuž warned that the situation was extremely dangerous and could have easily led to a tragedy. He commended the drivers for not attempting to move their vehicles while the man was on them, noting that any movement could have resulted in severe consequences. Ormuž added that he has rarely encountered a similar case in his extensive career, especially on such a multi-lane road.
