Man kills ex-partner in Dominican Republic's La Zurza neighborhood

A domestic dispute turned deadly in the Dominican Republic's National District when Keuri Samuel Upía, 32, allegedly killed his ex-partner, Melissa Figueroa, 27. The incident occurred Sunday night in the La Zurza sector.

Upía reportedly arrived at Figueroa's residence around 10 p.m. with a pizza box, intending to see their two young children, aged 7 and 4, and to persuade Figueroa to reconcile. However, Figueroa firmly rejected his advances, reiterating that their separation was final.

Shortly after this confrontation, Figueroa's body was discovered in a house bedroom. Her children alerted neighbors, who rushed to the scene. They managed to detain Upía until police arrived and arrested him.

Police spokesperson Diego Pesqueira expressed condolences for Figueroa's death. He stated that Upía is in police custody and investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances. Details regarding the victim's injuries will be determined by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) and the judicial process.
