Man named suspect after hunting dogs kill boy in Indonesia

Authorities in Bogor, Indonesia, have named a man, identified by the initial Y, as a suspect in the fatal mauling of a 9-year-old boy. The child, MAS, died from injuries sustained after being attacked by hunting dogs in the Jasinga district of Bogor Regency, West Java.

The incident unfolded while the victim was fishing with friends. According to witness accounts, a group of dogs, reportedly around four, released for wild boar hunting suddenly appeared and chased the boy, leading to the attack. Police identified the owner of one of the dogs through an identification tag attached to its body.

The suspect has stated that his dogs are typically used for hunting and had not previously attacked humans. However, he is now facing charges under Article 474, Paragraph (3), and/or Article 336, Letter C of Indonesia's 2023 Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years. Police are continuing their investigation to determine if others were involved in the incident.

Further forensic examinations are underway, including sending blood samples from the dog for laboratory testing to check for rabies. This investigation follows previous conclusions by the Bogor Police that the boy's death was a direct result of the dog attack during a wild boar hunting activity in the Jasinga forest area. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and members of the hunting community to reconstruct the full sequence of events.
