Man shot in chest and car found alight in Sydney's south-west

Police in Sydney are investigating a shooting and a car fire in the city's southwest as potentially linked events that occurred overnight.

Emergency services were called to Mimosa Road in Greenacre around 9 p.m. on Thursday following reports of gunshots. An 18-year-old man was found to have been shot twice in the chest on nearby Banksia Road. He was transported to a hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition. The Skoda SUV used to transport him was seized for forensic examination, and police are interviewing the driver.

Several hours later, at approximately 3 a.m. on Friday, emergency services responded to a car fire on Celia Street in Granville. Firefighters extinguished a blaze that had engulfed a Toyota Hilux. The vehicle sustained significant damage.

Investigators have established a third crime scene on Celia Street and are treating the shooting and the car fire as connected incidents. The investigation is ongoing.
