Man suspected of killing five people in Oregon found dead, officials say

Authorities in Oregon have found the man suspected of killing five people dead in what is believed to be a suicide. The victims were discovered on Saturday at a rural home near Forest Grove, approximately 30 miles outside Portland, after law enforcement responded to a report of a vehicle fire. Several domesticated animals were also found deceased at the scene.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as 36-year-old Benjamin Charles Parker. Police located Parker dead in his vehicle in Enumclaw, Washington, about 45 miles from Seattle. Investigators believe he died by suicide.

Caprice Massey, the Washington County Sheriff, described the scene as complex, stating, "In my 22 years here, I have not been a part of or witnessed a scene quite this complex." Detectives do not consider the killings to be random acts of violence, though details regarding the victims' identities, cause of death, and potential connections remain undisclosed.

Detective Shannon Wilde stated that the agency is actively working to identify the victims and notify their next of kin, acknowledging the logistical challenges involved. Wilde also noted the investigation is active with many moving parts, emphasizing the need for a responsible release of accurate information. As of Monday, the U.S. had recorded at least 16 mass murders for the year, defined as incidents where four or more victims are murdered, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
