Man tried to abduct police officers' son from school; how teachers sensed something was wrong

A man in Aleșd, Bihor county, has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to abduct a 7-year-old boy. The incident occurred at a local school where the suspect approached educators, claiming he was sent by the child's father, a police officer, to take him home.

The man, identified as Călin Valentin Varga, arrived at the school around 4:00 PM on Tuesday. His plan, however, was thwarted when school staff informed him that the child was no longer on the premises. This detail, coupled with the fact that a stranger was requesting to pick up the student, raised immediate suspicions among the teachers.

Alerted by the school staff, the police quickly identified and apprehended Varga the same day. He was detained for 24 hours, and on Wednesday, the Aleșd Court ordered his preventive arrest. Prosecutors are investigating him for unlawful deprivation of liberty, in the attempted form.

Sources suggest investigators are also considering the possibility that the suspect may have psychological issues, and he has undergone a psychiatric evaluation. The official results of this evaluation have not yet been released. The investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances of the attempted abduction and whether Varga acted alone or had other motives.
