Man Who Posted 'Yatap Station Stabbing Threat' Ordered to Pay 14.84 Million Won in Damages

A South Korean man must pay approximately 14.84 million won (about $10,500 USD) to the state for falsely threatening a stabbing spree at Yatap Station. The ruling comes after the man posted a message on an anonymous online community in September, warning of a violent attack targeting 30 people at the station.

The false threat triggered a significant police response. Authorities heightened security around Yatap Station, deploying 529 personnel, including special forces and armored vehicles, on the day of the threatened attack. The extensive deployment was deemed a waste of public funds.

Investigators later determined the man, identified only as A, posted the threat to promote his website. He was arrested two months after the post. In addition to the civil damages, A was previously convicted of threats and obstruction of justice. He received a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, and was ordered to perform 120 hours of community service.
