Manchester City extend Abdukodir Khusanov’s contract until 2031

Manchester City has secured the long-term future of Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov, announcing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2031. The new deal significantly extends his previous agreement, which was set to expire in the summer of 2029.

Since his arrival in January 2025, the 22-year-old has rapidly established himself as a crucial member of the Premier League side's defense. He formed a strong central defensive partnership with Marc Guéhi in the latter half of the previous season, featuring in 16 of the team's final 19 league matches. Khusanov also played a pivotal role in Manchester City's triumphs in both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup finals.

With 47 appearances for the club, Khusanov has earned recognition for his pace and tackling ability, becoming a standout young defender in the league. He was even nominated for Manchester City's Player of the Season award at the end of the 2025/26 season, finishing behind academy graduate Nico O’Reilly.

Beyond his club success, Khusanov was instrumental in helping the Uzbekistan national team achieve qualification for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history. He expressed his delight at extending his stay, stating his determination to earn a regular starting spot under head coach Enzo Maresca and thanking the fans for their support.

Director of Football Hugo Viana praised Khusanov's development, highlighting his "top" physical and technical abilities and his potential to become a "world-class centre-back." Viana believes Khusanov will be a significant part of Maresca's plans for years to come.
