Manchester City Make It Three Wins in a Row as Crystal Palace Earn First Points

Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season, but their 1-0 win over promoted Coventry City ended with the champions relieved to hear the final whistle. The result gave City three wins from three and nine points at the top of the table.

Enzo Fernandez, who joined from Chelsea for a British-record-equalling £125 million, helped create the only goal on his debut. In the 26th minute, he slid a pass to Antoine Semenyo, whose cross allowed Erling Haaland to head City in front. Haaland later had another goal ruled out.

Coventry finished strongly and would not have been flattered by an equalizer. City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma had to make a series of saves to preserve the lead. Manager Enzo Maresca also handed a debut to fellow deadline-day signing Iliman Ndiaye.

Crystal Palace claimed their first victory of the campaign at Fulham, recovering from going behind twice to win 3-2. Newcastle came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to Bournemouth, who scored first for a third straight game but remain without a win.

Tottenham earned their first point in a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest, despite failing to register a shot on target. Forest had a goal ruled out by VAR for handball. Brighton drew 1-1 with Leeds, while Brentford and Sunderland also finished 1-1. Promoted Hull City could move onto nine points against Aston Villa, while Arsenal and Chelsea, the other teams with perfect records after two rounds, were due to meet on Sunday.
