Mansour Approves Family Charter to Protect Children’s Best Interests

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan has approved a charter designed to protect children during disputes between separated parents.

In his capacity as chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, the UAE vice president, deputy prime minister and chairman of the Presidential Court issued Resolution No. 43 of 2026 approving the Post-Separation Charter, issued under the Year of Family.

The charter seeks to regulate the relationship between parents during disputes and promote children’s psychological and social stability. It places their best interests at the center of family-related decisions and aims to help create a safe and stable environment.

Its guiding principle is that the end of a marriage does not end parenthood. The document emphasizes that children continue to need shared care, safe contact and a stable setting that supports security and belonging. It also calls for both the father and mother to remain actively involved in raising their children.

The document is framed as an agreement based on mutual understanding and respect, with the stated goal of reinforcing children’s welfare after separation.
