Mansouri in Berkane: The PAM is betting on competence, not positions

The Authenticity and Modernity Party chose Berkane as the first stop for its national public meetings ahead of Morocco’s next legislative elections. More than 3,000 people attended the gathering in the Oriental region, which the party presented as a politically symbolic setting.

Fatima Zahra Mansouri, the party’s national coordinator, used the meeting to outline the messages she said would shape the coming period. She emphasized attracting qualified figures, defending the government’s record and presenting the party’s election program. She said the choice of the Oriental region was deliberate because of its standing and particular significance for the party.

Addressing debate over the arrival of political figures and elected officials from other parties, Mansouri rejected the idea that the PAM was seeking office for its own sake. The party, she said, wanted “patriotic talents and skills that work selflessly,” with the next phase requiring practical work and results rather than political speeches. She also discussed Fouzi Lekjaa’s membership, saying their relationship went back years and that he had been close to and supportive of the party. In her view, his move reflected shared convictions around social democracy and the national interest.

Mansouri denied that the party had pressured parliamentarians or other politicians to join. She described membership decisions as personal choices based on conviction, and said the party’s recent activity had unsettled some political rivals. She urged voters to move beyond political disputes and compare what parties had promised with what they had delivered.

She defended the election program’s focus on economic and social issues, including housing, employment and social policy. One proposal would give widows their deceased husbands’ full pensions instead of only part of them. Mansouri also rejected a politics of favors and positions, saying public responsibilities should not distribute privileges or discriminate among local authorities based on party affiliation. She ended by calling for greater accountability and told supporters, “We do not betray.”
