"Manual de un rockero": Álvaro Aguilar's Book Aims to Guide Aspiring Musicians

Álvaro Aguilar, the vocalist of Guatemalan rock band Alux Nahual, has officially launched his first book, "Manual de un rockero" (A Rocker's Manual), at the Palacio Nacional de la Cultura in Guatemala City.

For Editorial Cultura, this publication is important because we exist to support new generations. We donate 75% of all new print runs to schools and libraries, so material like this helps young people and children have the necessary tools to dedicate themselves to the arts. Furthermore, it is an important testimony that, in this country, people can dedicate themselves to art and music, and it is something we can all learn from.

Published with support from Editorial Cultura, part of Guatemala's Ministry of Culture and Sports, the book is described by Aguilar as a "zero to one hundred" guide for professional musicians. The launch event on June 10 featured Hanna Orellana from Editorial Cultura, Lucía Armas Gálvez from Difusión de las Artes, and commentator Juan Pablo Mijangos. Orellana highlighted the importance of the publication for supporting new generations, noting that 75% of new print runs are donated to schools and libraries.

I am sure many will ask: Why a book in these times? And why is Álvaro writing a book? And there are several reasons.

Aguilar shared his lifelong passion for reading, inspired by his grandmother and father, and explained how certain readings, particularly those about the music business, influenced his decision to write the manual. He expressed his hope that the book will serve as a key reference for individuals seeking to navigate the music industry more easily.

I have continued buying books and will continue buying them my whole life, but certain readings helped me to be better in my profession of music. They were the ones I bought about the music business. I bought several. And from there comes the idea for Manual de un rockero.

"The central idea is that it be more than a work of art, a document that serves many people as a guide to advance more easily on the path of music," Aguilar stated. He also reflected on the role of culture, including music and literature, in differentiating one country from another, emphasizing the need to draw from and celebrate a nation's unique cultural expressions.
