Manuela Urroz and Emanuelle Silva named Chile’s flag-bearers at South American Games

Manuela Urroz and Emanuelle Silva will lead Chile’s delegation as flag-bearers at the XIII South American Games, which will take place in Santa Fe, Argentina, from Sept. 12 to 26.

They represent the values that our committee wants to highlight. They are not only great athletes and historic representatives in their disciplines, but also great people and positive leaders, and that is the most important thing.

The Chilean Olympic Committee announced the appointments on Monday. Chile will send 535 athletes across 39 disciplines, making its delegation the second largest in the competition after host Argentina.

Urroz, 34, is captain of the Diablas field hockey team and recently competed at the World Cup. She has represented Chile since 2009 and played at the 2022 and 2026 World Cups. She described the appointment as a recognition of her long career and said she would represent her sport, her teammates and all of Team Chile with responsibility.

It is a real honor to have been chosen as flag-bearer at these South American Games.

Silva, a speed skater and multiple world champion, has also won medals at the Pan American, South American and Bolivarian Games. He said he viewed the honor collectively, as a representative of the entire delegation and country. Silva added that he trusted the work done with his team and would seek the gold medal.

I feel that I represent many athletes, an entire delegation and an entire country.

COCh president Miguel Ángel Mujica said both athletes represented the committee’s values as established figures in their sports and positive leaders. Chile finished fourth at the previous Games in Asunción in 2022, winning 38 gold, 31 silver and 62 bronze medals.

Obviously, I am going to seek that gold medal.
