Many Cats Missing After Massive Fire Engulfs Norwegian Town

A devastating fire in Krokstadelva, Norway, has left at least 16 cats missing and destroyed over 100 homes. The blaze, described as the largest in Norway in recent history, broke out Friday evening near Drammen, southwest of Oslo.

Emergency services battled the flames throughout the weekend, with the fire brought under control by Saturday evening. However, firefighting efforts are expected to continue for another ten days. The scale of the destruction is immense, with residential buildings significantly impacted.

Dyrebeskyttelsen (The Norwegian Animal Protection Agency) is actively searching for the missing felines. Lily Auliff, a veterinarian with the organization, told NTB that no other animals have been reported missing. It is believed that most dogs were evacuated safely with their owners or neighbors.

The incident has caused widespread damage, displacing numerous residents and leaving a significant scar on the community of Krokstadelva. The focus now shifts to the ongoing firefighting operations and the search for the missing pets.
