Marco Antonio Caponi announces he will be Charly García in a biopic: 'It's a dream come true'

Argentine actor Marco Antonio Caponi has sent waves through social media with the electrifying announcement that he will embody the iconic Charly García in an upcoming biopic series. Caponi himself revealed the confirmation, expressing that stepping into the shoes of the legendary Argentine composer is a "dream come true."

Over the weekend, Caponi posted a series of images on his Instagram account, showcasing him transformed into García, complete with the musician's signature look and distinctive bicolor mustache. Accompanying the photos, the actor wrote, "SAY NO MORE: the bombshell of my life is coming; FANTASY is coming, and this is not AI. THIS IS A DREAM COME TRUE... THE GREATEST MUSICIAN IN ARGENTINA AND THE WORLD IN MY SKIN 🩸❤️🎶 The best 8 episodes of Carlitos' life, that's how I feel it... inside."

Caponi's post not only confirms the biopic's title, "Fantasy," but also its planned eight-episode format. A shared video clip features Caponi alongside actor Benjamín Amadeo, who is reportedly portraying Nito Mestre. In the clip, they are seen singing the chorus of "Rasguña las piedras," highlighting Caponi's vocal efforts to emulate García's distinctive register. Given the common structure of modern biopics and Amadeo's portrayal of Mestre, García's bandmate in their early group Sui Generis, it is anticipated that the series will chronicle García's most significant musical milestones.

While the series is in its early stages, with an official platform or release date yet to be announced, speculation suggests the eight episodes might focus on pivotal moments in García's career, potentially leaving room for future seasons given his extensive body of work. This project marks Caponi's second foray into musical biopics, having previously earned critical acclaim for his portrayal of Sandro in a 2018 series based on the singer's life. His performance as "El Gitano" during his middle age, alongside co-stars Agustín Sullivan and Antonio Grimau, was particularly lauded by specialized press.
