Marcos Llorente Retires from Spain's National Team at 31

Marcos Llorente has ended his Spain career at 31, despite still being young enough to continue at international level. The Atlético Madrid player announced the decision on Instagram, saying he had considered it carefully and had effectively made it before the 2026 World Cup.

Llorente was part of Luis de la Fuente's Spain team that won the tournament, allowing him to close his time with La Roja with the country's biggest title. He insisted, however, that the outcome had not influenced his decision. Whether he had gone to the World Cup, played in it or won it with Spain, he said, the choice had already been made.
