Marcus Rashford is set to return to Manchester United after his loan spell with Barcelona concludes, as the Spanish club has opted against activating the €30 million purchase option in his contract. This decision marks the end of the England forward's one-season stint at Camp Nou, despite his crucial role in Barcelona's successful 2025-26 campaign.

Rashford proved to be a valuable asset during his time in Spain, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. His efforts were instrumental in Barcelona securing both the La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup. However, the club's recent acquisition of England winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for a reported €70 million has significantly altered their attacking plans for the upcoming season.

Reports suggest that Barcelona's head coach, Hansi Flick, favors younger forwards who align better with his tactical approach, specifically those capable of more aggressive pressing. Gordon, at 25, is seen as a more suitable long-term investment than Rashford, who will turn 29 in October. This age factor, combined with Gordon's perceived tactical fit, played a role in Barcelona's decision-making process.

Despite not making Rashford's move permanent, Barcelona reportedly expressed satisfaction with his performances. His contributions were vital in defending their domestic league title and maintaining competitiveness in various competitions. However, Gordon's arrival reduced the perceived need for another left-sided attacker, a position where Rashford primarily operates.
