Maresca uncertain over Rodri's Man City future amid Barcelona bid

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding midfielder Rodri's future, stating that "anything can happen" as Barcelona reportedly pursues the World Cup winner.

First of all, we already said the transfer window is open, we can buy and sell players, anything can happen. I just saw Rodri now in the building, I gave him a big hug. He looks good, so we’ll see what happens.

Reports indicate that City has rejected an opening bid of £38.5 million ($52 million) from the Spanish club for the 30-year-old Spaniard, who has one year left on his contract. City is said to value Rodri, who was named player of the tournament at the recent World Cup, at around £68 million. Maresca, speaking ahead of the Community Shield clash against Arsenal, noted he had just seen Rodri and that the player "looks good."

While Maresca declined to comment on players under contract with other clubs, he confirmed that City still has business to conduct in the transfer market. "For sure there are things we need to do," he said, adding that the number of incomings or outgoings could be one or two players. This comes after City spent £116 million on Elliot Anderson and amid reports that midfielder Tijjani Reijnders is close to joining Saudi club Al Qadsiah for an estimated £51 million.

Maresca described Reijnders' potential departure as "normal," explaining that if the club, player, and manager agree it's the best decision, the player should move on. Reijnders joined City last year but struggled to secure a regular starting position. The manager also indicated that City would not be making a bid for Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez on Friday.

Tijjani’s situation is like James Trafford’s situation, some more players, but I think when the club, the player, the manager, they all think the same way, that probably the best decision for a player is to go, you have to go.
