María Fernanda Case: Trial against adults to begin Monday after final rejection of incidents

The trial for five adults implicated in the murder of María Fernanda Benítez is set to commence on June 15, following the definitive rejection of all appeals by the defense teams. The court confirmed that no further procedural hurdles stand in the way of the proceedings.

In their entirety, they have ratified the initial decision in the sense of rejecting the incidents and also the appeals that the defenders filed.

Prosecutor Fermín Segovia stated that the extensive hearing on Tuesday concluded late, with the tribunal upholding its initial decision to dismiss the defense's challenges. This marks the end of the preliminary incident phase, which had repeatedly suspended the trial's formal start.

The court has summoned all parties for 8:00 AM on Monday to read the opening of the trial and present initial arguments from the prosecution, the adhesive complaint, and the defense. Following this, the trial will move into the evidence presentation stage, including witness statements, documents, expert reports, videos, and photographs gathered during the investigation.

Five adults will face trial for their alleged involvement in the crime. These include the parents of the main suspect and the father-in-law of the accused murderer. The principal suspect, who was a minor at the time of the crime, will have a separate trial conducted behind closed doors. Once all evidence is presented, final arguments will be made before the Sentencing Court issues its final resolution.

The incidental part has already concluded. The defenses had their opportunity to file all the incidents they considered pertinent. They were answered, rejected, re-evaluated again by the tribunal and finally rejected.
