Marin Čilić's project achieves its greatest victory: renovated playgrounds and opportunities for children

The fourth edition of the Gem Set Croatia tennis tournament, held in Karlovac, has once again demonstrated that the greatest victories extend beyond the scoreboard. The Marin Čilić Foundation's vision has always been to show how sport can transform communities and leave a lasting impact. This year's event in Karlovac, following previous editions in Zagreb, Petrinja, and Zadar, proved this point.

Although Tim Čilić emerged as the winner after a dramatic final decided by a golden point against Tim Gojo, the project's true success lies in its enduring legacy. This includes renovated children's playgrounds, new spaces for sports and recreation, and opportunities created for future generations. "Every child deserves a place where they can grow, play, dream, and develop their talents," the foundation stated.

Svatko od njih iza sebe ima nevjerojatnu karijeru, medalje, trofeje i uspjehe, ali ono što me uvijek najviše impresionira jest njihova spremnost da svoje vrijeme i energiju stave u službu nečega većeg od sporta. Posebno hvala svim posjetiteljima, djeci, roditeljima, volonterima, partnerima, Gradu Karlovcu, Karlovačkoj županiji i Ministarstvu turizma i sporta koji su pomogli da zajedno stvorimo još jedno nezaboravno izdanje Gem Seta.

Marin Čilić expressed his gratitude to all the athletes who came to Karlovac, highlighting their willingness to dedicate their time and energy to a cause greater than sport. He also thanked the visitors, children, parents, volunteers, partners, the City of Karlovac, Karlovačko County, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sport for making the event memorable. "I am especially pleased to see so many children here today. Perhaps among them is a future Olympic champion, a Grand Slam winner, or a world champion. But equally, perhaps among them is a child who, because of a day like this, will fall in love with sport, gain self-confidence, find friends, and learn values that will stay with them their whole lives," Čilić said.

The sports program at the renovated Vunsko polje playground featured exciting matches and a great atmosphere. The final saw Tim Čilić, represented by Marin Čilić, Valent Sinković, Karlo Matković, and Zrinka Ljutić (later joined by Dejan Lovren), compete against Tim Gojo, featuring Borna Gojo, Jerko Leko, Doris Bačić, and Mateo Maraš. After splitting wins, the title was decided by a golden point secured by Valent Sinković and Dejan Lovren for Tim Čilić. Other notable athletes participating included Borna Ćorić, Ivan Dodig, and Ivano Balić.

Posebno me veseli vidjeti toliko djece danas ovdje. Možda je među njima budući olimpijski pobjednik, osvajač Grand Slama ili svjetski prvak. Ali jednako tako, možda je među njima dijete koje će upravo zbog jednog ovakvog dana zavoljeti sport, steći samopouzdanje, pronaći prijatelje i naučiti vrijednosti koje će ga pratiti cijeli život.
