Marrakech Boosts 'Second Chance' Program, Aims for 4,000 Beneficiaries

Marrakech recently hosted the first regional annual forum for "Second Chance - New Generation" centers, a program designed to combat school dropout and provide new educational and professional pathways. The initiative, which aims to reach 4,000 beneficiaries in the upcoming academic year, has shown significant success. The forum highlighted the program's achievements in reintegrating students into formal education, with a 76% success rate. Furthermore, 88% of participants have been integrated into the job market, vocational training, or have started their own income-generating projects.

Atiya Azoulay, head of the educational institution management department at the Marrakech-Safi Regional Academy of Education and Training, emphasized that the forum's organization aligns with royal directives and the 2022-2026 roadmap. These strategic goals prioritize combating school wastage, ensuring equity and equal opportunities, and developing human capital.

The program employs a proactive approach to address school dropout. This includes early monitoring, individualized support, and psycho-social assistance. The initiative also focuses on enriching school life and engaging families and partners. The current network in the Marrakech-Safi region comprises 21 centers serving over 2,400 students.

Looking ahead, there are plans to expand the "Second Chance" network to 46 centers by the 2026-2027 academic year. This expansion will increase capacity to over 4,000 beneficiaries. The plan also includes establishing transitional classes in pioneering middle schools, launching digital classes in remote areas, and engaging with correctional facilities to promote spatial justice and equal opportunities.
