Marseille thrash Strasbourg 4-0 as Ligue 1 season begins

Olympique Marseille began their Ligue 1 campaign with a resounding 4-0 victory against 10-man Racing Strasbourg on Friday. Striker Amine Gouiri was the star of the match, netting a second-half brace to secure a winning start for new coach Bruno Genesio.

Gouiri broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second period, converting a left-footed finish set up by England international Angel Gomes. The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 59th minute when Samir El-Mourabet was sent off for kicking out in frustration. VAR intervened again to award Marseille a penalty for a foul on Igor Paixao, which Gouiri confidently converted in the 67th minute.

Substitute Keyliane Abdallah extended Marseille's lead with a left-footed strike just before full-time. The dominant second-half performance was capped off by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who fired home from the edge of the box in the sixth minute of added time.

Friday's fixture kicked off the new league season, with five more matches scheduled for Saturday and three for Sunday, including defending champions Paris Saint-Germain's opening game.
