Massive Attack on Kyiv: Russia Fires Dozens of Ballistic Missiles

Russia unleashed a significant barrage of ballistic missiles on Kyiv, striking targets including military industry sites and port facilities. The Ukrainian capital experienced numerous explosions overnight, with air defense systems actively engaging the incoming projectiles. Initial reports from civil defense indicated at least one fatality and eight injuries, with several homes and vehicles destroyed.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed impacts and damage across multiple city districts, reporting fires. The Ukrainian Air Force stated that over two dozen ballistic missiles were fired at targets in and around the capital. This offensive comes as Ukraine continues its defense against the Russian invasion, a conflict now in its fifth year. Kyiv has recently voiced concerns about a shortage of interceptor missiles for its Patriot air defense systems, particularly for countering ballistic threats.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that the strikes hit a large post logistics center used for storing weapons components, as well as several facilities involved in the production of missile components. They also stated that a center for storing and distributing elements for long-range drone production was hit in the Kyiv region. Additionally, the ministry reported attacks on port infrastructure in southern Ukraine, including facilities for storing military goods and fuel depots near Odessa.
