Massive Explosion at Russian Chemical Complex Kills One, Injures Over 120

A major explosion and subsequent fire at a gas chemical complex in Russia's Amur region has resulted in casualties and injuries. The incident occurred at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex, which is currently under construction in Russia's Far East. At least one person, identified as a Chinese citizen employed by a contractor, died despite medical intervention. TASS reported that 123 people were injured, with 19 requiring hospitalization.

The Amur Gas Chemical Complex is a significant project, described as one of the world's largest polyethylene and polypropylene production facilities. It is a joint venture between Russia's Sibur and China's Sinopec. Production had not yet commenced at the time of the explosion. Emergency services are continuing operations at the site, including a controlled burn of remaining industrial gases to mitigate further risks.

While authorities investigate the cause, unconfirmed reports circulating on social media speculate that a Ukrainian drone might have been responsible for the explosion. However, these claims have not been verified by official sources, and no public evidence currently supports this hypothesis. The complex's location in the Amur region, a key area for infrastructure projects often utilizing foreign labor, including Chinese workers, underscores its international collaboration aspect.
