Mateo Moreno, NTVG Co-Founder, Discusses Solo Career and Music Production in Paraguay

Mateo Moreno, a co-founder of the renowned Uruguayan rock group No Te Va Gustar (NTVG), recently visited Paraguay for performances and a talk on his work as a producer. Moreno, who is the bassist, singer, songwriter, and producer for the band, reflected on his beginnings with NTVG, which he started with friends at the age of 16.

He recalled his initial trips to Paraguay as part of NTVG, performing at festivals like Pilsen Rock.

In 2006, Moreno embarked on a solo career. "I had already made my path there, I was with my childhood friends for about 16 or 17 years, it was beautiful, but a moment came when not only I, but also the drummer (Pablo Abdala), left," he explained. He described his departure from NTVG as amicable, stating, "It was a good separation, not a conflictive one."

His latest album, "A Vos Te Hicieron Peor Que Vos a Mi," released last July, features 15 songs, including a collaboration with NTVG's vocalist, Emiliano Brancciari, on a punk rock track titled "Robot." Moreno described the album as "a long record, against the grain of what is done today, which is all insipid, fast, and with little musical content." He expressed gratitude for his dedicated fanbase in Argentina, Uruguay, Spain, and Paraguay.

The album process involved collaborations with various musicians, including members of Los Pericos and the Uruguayan group DosTresCinco. On the opening track, "Antídoto," Moreno pays tribute to NTVG's keyboardist, Marcel Curuchet, who died in a traffic accident in the United States in 2012. A decade ago, Moreno and Brancciari dedicated the reggae song "1000 velas" to Curuchet, with the rights to the song given to his son.
